TikTok qualified views: why your view count and your paid views differ
TikTok pays Creator Rewards only on qualified views: 5+ seconds, one per account, 8 countries, no Not interested taps, Search views at 30+ seconds.

In short
Only qualified views earn. As of October 2026, TikTok's Creator Academy counts a view only if it lasts at least 5 seconds, comes from one of eight program countries, is the first view from that account, and was not marked "Not interested"; Search views count only at 30 seconds or more. Paid, promoted, fraudulent and sponsored views never count, and the video itself must be over 1 minute with at least 1,000 For You feed views.

A qualified view must pass six filters
Through the Creator Rewards Program (CRP), its payout program for videos over 1 minute, TikTok pays per 1,000 qualified views. RPM (rewards per 1,000 qualified views) is the rate. Your public view count is not the number TikTok pays on.
The Creator Academy states the rules on two pages: the program overview and a separate article on what counts as a qualified view. Together they set these filters:
| Filter | TikTok's rule | Views it removes |
|---|---|---|
| Watch time | "A watch time of at least five seconds" | Quick swipes past your clip |
| Unique viewer | "Multiple views from the same account are counted as one unique view" | Rewatches and loops by the same person |
| Negative feedback | Views with an "I'm not interested" tap are not included; the qualified-view article also excludes "disliked views" | Viewers who told TikTok they do not want this content |
| Country | Only views from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico and Brazil | Every view from any other country |
| Search | "Search views with watch times of at least 30 seconds" | Search views between 5 and 29 seconds |
| Authenticity and payment | Excludes "fraudulent or paid views"; "Ads, paid promotions, and sponsored content don't qualify" | Bot views, ad views, promoted views, sponsored posts |
One more exclusion is easy to miss. The qualified-view article says that views from View Boost Benefit, a TikTok promotion feature, "don't count towards the Creator Rewards Program."
The video must qualify before any of its views can
Views are counted only on eligible videos. The Creator Academy lists the video rules:
- Original, high-quality content over 1 minute long.
- At least 1,000 views on the For You feed, TikTok's main recommendation feed.
- Not a Duet or Stitch, and not made with Photo Mode.
- Not an ad, paid promotion or sponsored content.
- Compliant with the program terms, Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, Creator Code of Conduct and Copyright Policy.
The account must also be eligible: age 18 or older, a Personal account, 10,000 followers, 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, and residence in one of the eight countries.
The US program terms, last updated July 20, 2026, add legal wording. Rewards use "total legitimate video views and other signals", all metrics are "based solely on TikTok data", and TikTok reserves the right to set "a monthly or annual cap" on each creator's rewards. Metrics that are "paid or incentivized" or that come from accounts "acting in connection with Creator to inflate metrics" are excluded.
Where the gap between views and paid views comes from
Each filter removes a different slice of your audience. For a clip account, some slices are larger than for a typical creator:
- The 5-second rule. Views shorter than 5 seconds are excluded. A clip with a slow opening loses every viewer who leaves in that window. See hooks for clips.
- Country. Only eight countries count. TikTok's recommendation explainer says feeds include "content from creators in your region", and it uses the video's region and the author's language as signals. This is our reading; TikTok has not said it: an account that posts in a language mostly spoken outside the eight countries will probably collect a large share of views that never qualify.
- Loops. Short clips often loop. Rewatches by the same account count once.
- Not interested. A viewer who long-presses and taps "Not interested" removes their view from your qualified count and tells the system to show less of that content.
- Search under 30 seconds. A search viewer who finds the answer in 20 seconds and leaves gives you a public view and no qualified view.
Illustration with made-up numbers, not TikTok data. Suppose a video shows 1,000,000 views. If 35% came from outside the eight countries, 650,000 remain. If 40% of those left before 5 seconds, 390,000 remain. If 10% of the rest were repeat views or "Not interested" views, about 351,000 qualified views remain. Your real shares will differ. The point is that the filters multiply, so a few moderate losses can remove most of a view count.
Search views follow a stricter rule
It is easy to assume that only For You feed views count, because the per-video minimum is measured there. TikTok's current Creator Academy text says otherwise: Search views count when the watch time is at least 30 seconds. The Academy adds, "we encourage you to optimize your content for search to collect more rewards."
Search also feeds the rate, not only the view count. On March 18, 2024, TikTok named "search value" as one of four core metrics in the rewards formula, next to originality, play duration and audience engagement. TikTok describes search value as a metric "assigned to content based on popular search terms." Its Creator Search Insights tool shows topics that people search for often, including "content gap" topics with many searches and few videos.
Note the asymmetry. The per-video minimum of 1,000 views must come from the For You feed. Search can add qualified views, but it cannot replace that minimum. For a full search workflow, see TikTok search for clippers.
How TikTok shows you the split
You do not need to guess your own numbers. The Creator Rewards dashboard has a "Rewards per video" page that breaks each video's rewards into RPM and qualified views. Further down, it shows "qualified views vs. ineligible views" and tells you why views did not count, for example that they "came from ineligible regions or had watch times shorter than 5 seconds."
The same Academy article explains RPM gaps: if two videos got similar views but very different rewards, "it's usually because of your RPM." A higher RPM often means the video was higher quality, "had longer watch times, or performed better in eligible regions."
Timing matters when you read the data:
- Estimated rewards usually update within three days after you post.
- You can redeem rewards on the 15th of each month if they reach the $50.00 USD minimum.
- Videos that are deleted or set to private are excluded, and their rewards are not paid.
- TikTok Studio's viewer locations are "based on predictive models rather than confirmed user data", so treat them as estimates.
Qualified views are not what clipping campaigns pay for
The qualified-view rules belong to TikTok's own program. A clipping campaign is a separate deal: a brand, streamer or podcast funds a budget, and a clipping platform pays you per 1,000 views by its own counting rules. TikTok's filters do not apply to campaign pay unless the campaign copies them.
Some campaigns apply similar ideas. Some reject views from countries the brand cannot sell to, and some ask for analytics screenshots before they pay. Read flagged views and view bots for how campaigns check views, and the clipping calculator to estimate campaign pay.
For most clippers, Creator Rewards is a small part of income or none. TikTok excludes content with "minimal original input or edits" and "sponsored content", and a paid campaign clip often fails one or both. Still, the qualified-view filters are a useful model of what TikTok values: viewers in the eight countries who stay past the opening and do not reject the video.
What to do now: raise your qualified share step by step
- Open the Rewards per video page for your last ten eligible videos. Write down the qualified share and the main reason for ineligible views on each.
- If short watch time is the main loss, rework the first 5 seconds. Start on the strongest line, cut greetings and dead air, and put the context on screen at once.
- If region is the main loss, check the language and topic of your clips against the eight countries. TikTok's explainer says region and author language are recommendation signals.
- Make videos over 1 minute only when the moment needs the time. A padded clip loses viewers before 5 seconds and again later.
- Add search value. Use Creator Search Insights, say the search phrase in the first seconds, and put it in the caption. A search viewer must stay 30 seconds to count.
- Never buy or boost views. Paid, promoted and fraudulent views are excluded, and inflated metrics can make the account ineligible.
- Compare over weeks, not one video. RPM and qualified share move with each video's audience.
What TikTok has not published
As of October 4, 2026, these points have no official answer:
- A typical qualified share, or a typical RPM. TikTok publishes neither.
- Whether the 5 seconds count from the first frame of each loop or only the first play.
- How long a "Not interested" tap can arrive after the view and still remove it.
- Whether countries outside the eight will join the program. Mexico joined in October 2025, according to Expansión, a Mexican business outlet.

Questions
Do views from Spark Ads or promotions count as qualified views?
No. TikTok excludes paid and promoted views, and states that "Ads, paid promotions, and sponsored content don't qualify for rewards." Views from View Boost Benefit also do not count.
Do views from my own other accounts count?
No, and they put the account at risk. The US terms exclude metrics "from the Creator or accounts acting in connection with Creator to inflate metrics."
If my video reaches 1,000 views through search, does it qualify?
Not on that basis. The per-video minimum is 1,000 views on the For You feed. Search views add qualified views only after the video is eligible, and only at 30 seconds of watch time or more.
Does joining Creator Rewards reduce my reach?
TikTok says no. Its FAQ states that your content's performance and following "won't be affected when you join the program."
Does posting more videos raise my rewards per view?
Not by itself. When TikTok launched the program on March 18, 2024, it said play duration "accounts for both watch time and finish rate" and that the formula rewards clear, engaging content "rather than favoring accounts with an excessive amount of videos." Volume adds qualified views only if each video holds viewers.
Can I appeal a video that was marked ineligible?
Yes, within 80 days of the notice. An account disqualification must be appealed within 30 days. If the appeal succeeds, the rewards are paid in the next payout cycle.
Are qualified views the same in every country?
The rules are the same, but only views from the eight program countries qualify. A viewer in Canada or India gives you a public view and no qualified view.
