Content Check Lite and Account Check: pre-flight your TikTok clips

Content Check Lite, announced July 30, 2025, checks a video against TikTok's For You feed rules before you post. How to use it with Account Check.

In short

Turn on Content Check Lite, a setting in TikTok Studio on the web that TikTok announced on July 30, 2025. It checks each upload against the For You feed Eligibility Standards and shows prompts on the submission page before you post. TikTok calls the check "only preliminary", so pair it with Account Check, which scans your account and your last 30 posts, and with the For You warning in your video analytics.

Content Check Lite tells you about For You problems before you post

The For You feed (FYF) is TikTok's main recommendation feed. Clip accounts depend on it for reach. A video that is "ineligible for the FYF" stays on your profile and in search, but TikTok does not recommend it to new viewers. For a clip account, that usually means the clip is dead.

On July 30, 2025, TikTok announced Content Check Lite. The announcement said it lets creators "pre-check whether their content is likely to be ineligible" for the For You feed, before they post. It started in TikTok Studio on the web.

TikTok gave one number to explain why. When it rolled out a similar pre-check for TikTok Shop sellers, it saw "a 27% reduction in low-quality uploads". That number is about Shop sellers, not about creators or clips.

The same post said TikTok was testing a broader Content Check with a small pilot group. That version would check content against all the Community Guidelines, not only the For You rules. We found no TikTok announcement of a wider launch as of October 4, 2026.

How to turn it on

TikTok's Creator Academy says the feature is available only on the web version of TikTok. You can turn it on in one of two ways:

  • From settings: open TikTok Studio on the web, click your profile in the top right, open Settings, and turn on Automatic content check lite.
  • From an upload: upload a video in TikTok Studio on the web. When the pop-up appears, select Turn on.

After that, every upload is checked against the For You feed Eligibility Standards in the Community Guidelines. If the check finds an issue, it shows a specific prompt on the submission page. If it finds none, green checkmarks appear.

If you post from your phone, you do not get this check. A clipper who edits on a computer and uploads from the phone loses the pre-check. Uploading through TikTok Studio on the web keeps it.

What the check covers, and what it cannot see

TikTok says the check is "only preliminary" and does not guarantee that a post meets its standards after you publish it. It also says you should make sure your content does not infringe third-party rights. The check is about recommendation, not about copyright.

The table below maps common clip problems to the rules they fall under. TikTok does not publish which signals the check uses, so the middle column shows only whether the rule is in the scope that TikTok describes.

Clip problemIn the scope of Content Check Lite?Where else to check
Someone else's watermark or logoYes: the FYF standards name "clips that show someone else's watermark or logo"Your own eyes before export. See watermarks and logos
Reused footage with nothing new addedYes: the guidelines exclude "unoriginal or reused material without anything new"Your edit: hook, captions, context
Short clips made only from GIFsYes: named as low-quality contentUse real video footage
Copyright in the footage or musicNo: TikTok tells you to check third-party rights yourselfThe music copyright pre-check in TikTok's web uploader; the campaign's license
Creator Rewards quality rules (split screens, meaningless reactions)Not documented as part of the checkCreator Rewards eligibility page. See the low-quality list
Commercial disclosureNot documented as part of the checkSet the toggle yourself
Campaign rules (length, tags, logo)No: these are not TikTok rulesThe campaign brief

A green check is useful evidence, not a promise. TikTok's Academy explains that its systems review everything uploaded and look again when a video gains popularity or someone reports it. A clip can pass the pre-check and still be restricted later.

Account Check audits the posts you already published

Content Check Lite looks forward. Account Check looks back. TikTok announced it on April 22, 2024, as a way for creators to "audit their account and their last 30 posts". The Creator Academy page describes the current version.

One click scans your account and your last 30 posts for issues with login, posts, comments, profile and direct messages. That includes restrictions on posting or commenting, posts not eligible for the feed, and posts that received a violation. A green check mark means no issue. A red exclamation point means TikTok found something, and you can open the tab to see which videos are affected and appeal.

Account Check sees only the last 30 posts. A clip account that posts five times a day covers about six days in that window. Run it often enough that no restricted post scrolls out of view before you notice it.

To run it in the app: tap Profile, tap the menu button, select TikTok Studio, go to More tools and tap Account check.

Many ineligible clips can take the whole account out of the feed

This is why a pre-check matters more for clip accounts than for most creators. In the April 2024 update, TikTok introduced a policy to make "an entire account temporarily ineligible" for For You recommendations when a creator repeatedly posts content that breaks the For You standards. TikTok said the account and its content would also be harder to find in search, and that creators would be notified and could appeal.

The Community Guidelines in force since September 24, 2026 keep this rule. They say accounts that "don't break the rules" but still post a lot of ineligible content may be made ineligible for the FYF and harder to find.

TikTok does not publish how many ineligible posts trigger this. Our inference: every clip that fails the For You standards adds to an account-level risk, even when no single clip is a violation. A pre-check that stops one bad clip a day protects the account, not only that clip. See shadowbans for how this looks from the outside.

Where TikTok tells you a clip was limited

After you post, TikTok's Creator Academy names three places to check when it acts on your content:

PlaceWhat you see
InboxConsequences in Account Updates; your full record in Account Status
ProfileRemoved videos carry a "Community Guidelines violation" tag
AnalyticsA warning bar at the top of the Performance tab if a video is not eligible for the For You feed

If you think TikTok made a mistake, tap Appeal on the notification page. A member of the safety team reviews the content again. If the appeal succeeds, TikTok restores the content and removes the penalty.

Two more details matter for planning. Strikes expire from your record after 90 days. Since 2024, a first violation brings a warning strike that does not count toward the strike tally, except in zero-tolerance areas. For Creator Rewards, you can appeal an ineligible video within 80 days and a disqualified account within 30 days.

A pre-flight routine for clip accounts

  1. Before export, check every frame for another platform's watermark or another creator's logo. Remove it or choose another clip.
  2. Add something new: choose a tight moment, write a hook, add captions and context. In our view, reused footage without anything new is the main For You risk for clips.
  3. Upload through TikTok Studio on the web with Automatic content check lite turned on, even if you usually post from your phone.
  4. Read every prompt. Fix the clip and upload it again, or drop it. Do not post a clip that failed the check and hope.
  5. Run the music copyright pre-check in the web uploader if the clip has music.
  6. After 24 hours, open the clip's analytics. Look for the warning bar on the Performance tab.
  7. Once a week, and after any sudden drop in views, run Account Check on each account you manage.
  8. Appeal wrong decisions at once, and keep a short log of what failed and why. Patterns in that log tell you which edits to change.

Limits you should plan around

Content Check Lite is narrow by design. It checks For You eligibility. It does not check copyright, campaign rules or Creator Rewards quality, and TikTok says its result is not a guarantee.

It is also web only. TikTok has not announced it in the mobile posting flow. If you post many clips a day from a phone, the web step costs time, and you must decide whether the check is worth it for each account.

It works per upload and per account. Nothing in TikTok's description says the check compares your clip with clips other people posted from the same source. If ten clippers post the same moment, the pre-check will not warn you about that. See the similarity check and campaign saturation.

A pass with low views is a different problem. TikTok's originality page says a video that is original but gets few views may suffer from "a lack of community engagement" rather than ineligibility. Its analytics guidance says the same: low views do not by themselves mean a video was left out of the feed. If the check passed and the Performance tab shows no warning, work on the hook and the moment you chose, not on the rules. See hooks for clips.

Finally, the broader Content Check that covers all Community Guidelines was still described as a pilot in TikTok's announcement. Until TikTok says otherwise, treat Content Check Lite as a For You filter and nothing more.

Questions

Is Content Check Lite available in the TikTok phone app?

TikTok's Creator Academy says it is only available on the web version of TikTok. You turn it on in TikTok Studio on the web, either in Settings or from the pop-up when you upload.

Does passing Content Check Lite protect my clip from later removal?

No. TikTok says the check is preliminary and does not guarantee that your content complies after it has been posted. Videos can be reviewed again when they become popular or when someone reports them.

Does Content Check Lite check copyright?

No. TikTok says you should make sure your content does not infringe third-party rights. For music, TikTok's web uploader has a separate copyright pre-check that shows whether TikTok has a license for the music in your video.

How many posts does Account Check look at?

Your last 30 posts, plus account-level restrictions on login, posting, comments, profile edits and direct messages.

Will TikTok tell me if my whole account is out of the For You feed?

TikTok said in April 2024 that it notifies creators when their account is made temporarily ineligible for recommendation and that they can appeal. Account Check and Account Status are the places to confirm it.

Is a For You restriction the same as a strike?

No. A strike follows a removal for a violation, and strikes expire after 90 days. A video can be ineligible for the For You feed without breaking a rule. Both can be appealed.
