HOW TO CLIP A PODCAST

How to clip a podcast and post the moment

Spotify’s scissor tool saves and shares a moment inside Spotify. To post a video on Reels, Shorts or TikTok, clip the episode in FastClip: pick the moment and download a captioned vertical MP4.

You pick the moment; FastClip adds the captions.

Free, no credit card. Paste a YouTube, X or Google Drive link, or upload an audio or video file of up to 5 GB in the app.

How to clip a podcast episode into a video

  1. 1. Get the episode as a file or a link

Use your own recording, the audio file from your podcast host, or the YouTube link of the video version. FastClip cannot open a link to Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

  2. 2. Paste the link or upload the file

Paste a YouTube, X or Google Drive link in the box above, or upload an audio or video file of up to 5 GB in the app. An upload does not depend on YouTube.

  3. 3. Pick the moment

Take a suggested moment, select the words in the transcript, or set the start and end on the timeline. A clip is up to five minutes. Start on the first sentence of the thought.

  4. 4. Download the video

An audio episode becomes a vertical video with a moving waveform and captions. A video episode keeps its picture, and you can crop it to 9:16 so it follows the speaker’s face. Download the MP4 and upload it where you want to post.

If a link does not work

YouTube refuses many downloads from FastClip’s servers, so a pasted YouTube link can fail. A file you upload does not depend on YouTube, so it works when a link does not.

What Spotify’s clip tool does

From Spotify’s announcement of podcast clips (May 27, 2026) and its help page for creators (read October 16, 2026):

  • Listeners make a clip with the scissor icon. While you listen, tap the scissor icon in the Now Playing view, trim the clip, then tap Save or Share.
  • Saved clips stay in Spotify. Spotify says saved clips go to a space in Your Library and can be added to podcast playlists.
  • Sharing has four formats. The share menu offers the full episode, a chapter, a timestamp or a clip. Spotify says you can send it through Spotify Messages or any supported platform.
  • Not every show has it yet. Spotify says clips are starting to roll out globally to Free and Premium users on mobile, with more shows over time.
  • Creators can add one video clip to an episode. In Spotify for Creators, a clip is 15 to 90 seconds, up to 1 GB, in MP4 or MOV format, with vertical recommended.

In practice: Spotify’s tool is for saving and sharing inside Spotify. Its announcement does not give a length limit for listener clips and does not say what a person on another app receives. For a video file that you can post anywhere, make it in FastClip.

What FastClip does for a podcast clip, and what it does not

What you get from one clip:

  • A file or a YouTube link, not a Spotify link. FastClip makes the clip from the episode file or from the YouTube version. It does not open Spotify or Apple Podcasts links.
  • One moment at a time. A clip is up to 5 minutes. FastClip does not cut an episode into many clips by itself. You pick each moment.
  • Captions in the picture. Word-timed captions are burned in, in the language spoken. There is no separate caption file and no translation. See add captions to video.
  • No direct post to Spotify. FastClip makes the MP4. For a creator clip on an episode, choose a range of 15 to 90 seconds, download the file and upload it in Spotify for Creators.
  • A credit on video clips only. A video clip carries a small “Made with FastClip” credit by default, which you can switch off in Settings, on the free plan too. A clip made from audio carries no FastClip credit.

In practice: clip your own show, or ask the host first. Our originality rules by platform compare what each app says about reused clips.

Which moment to clip

Pick one complete thought: a question and its answer, a story with an ending, or one clear statement. Cut the introduction and end on the last sentence that carries the point. Our guides on hooks and clip length go deeper. For campaigns and pay, see podcast clipping.
