Turn a voice memo into a video, free

Upload the recording and pick the moment. FastClip makes a vertical 9:16 video with a moving waveform and word-timed captions. Download the MP4 and post it as a Reel, a Short or a TikTok.

Free, no credit card. Works in a phone or desktop browser and in the iPhone app (TestFlight). Upload an audio file of up to 5 GB.

How to turn a voice memo into a video

  1. 1. Share the recording as a file

On an iPhone, open Voice Memos, tap the recording, tap the more button, tap Share, then Options, and choose Rendered. Save the file or send it to your computer. A recording from any other app works too, if it is an audio file.

  2. 2. Upload it to FastClip

Open FastClip and upload the file: M4A, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus and other audio formats, up to 5 GB a file. FastClip prepares the audio and the transcript. You can leave and come back.

  3. 3. Pick the moment

Listen and choose the part to share. Select the exact words in the transcript, or set the start and end on the timeline. A clip is up to five minutes. You can make more clips from the same recording later.

  4. 4. Choose the look and download

Choose one of 23 waveform styles and a caption style. A live preview shows both. FastClip makes an MP4 at 1080 × 1920. Download it and upload it to Instagram, YouTube Shorts, TikTok or Facebook.

Why there is no link box

A voice memo is a file on your phone or computer, so you upload it. FastClip cannot open a link to a voice message in a chat app. Save the message as an audio file first, then upload it.

Which file to take from Voice Memos

From Apple’s guide to sharing a recording in Voice Memos (read October 16, 2026):

  • Choose Rendered. Apple says Rendered creates a single .m4a file with all audio effects and layers mixed in. FastClip accepts M4A.
  • Skip Editable. Apple describes Editable as a file that lets a recipient with a compatible device and software update configure effects and layers. It is not a plain audio file.
  • Many recordings at once. Apple says you can select several recordings and share them with the same Rendered option. Files that you upload together become one source in play order, so upload them one at a time to keep them apart.
  • Other recorders. A recording from an Android phone, a handheld recorder or a call app works when it is an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, Opus, AAC, FLAC, AIFF or WMA file.

In practice: share one recording as Rendered, save it to Files, and upload that file.

What FastClip does with a voice memo, and what it does not

What you get from one clip:

  • One moment, up to five minutes. The recording can be much longer. FastClip does not turn a whole long recording into one video. You can make several clips from one recording.
  • A waveform and captions, not a picture. The video shows the moving waveform and the captions. It does not show cover art or a photo. You can add your own logo in Settings.
  • Burned-in captions. Captions come from speech recognition, in the language spoken, and are part of the picture. There is no separate caption file and no translation. See add captions to video.
  • A video, not an audio file. The result is an MP4. FastClip does not export MP3 or other audio-only files.
  • No FastClip credit on audio clips. A video clip carries a small “Made with FastClip” credit by default, which you can switch off. A clip made from audio does not carry it.

In practice: record and share only voices you have permission to use. Check the captions for names and rare words before you download.

Which moment to use

Pick one complete thought: a story with an ending, a tip, or a line that people will want to hear twice. Start on its first word and end on its last. Our guides on hooks and clip length go deeper. Is the recording a podcast episode? See the audiogram maker.

Questions

Is this voice memo to video converter free?

Yes. The free plan has no credit card: 100 finished clips and 50 YouTube or upload imports in total, and up to 30 finished clips a day. One audio upload counts as one import.

How do I turn a voice memo into a video on an iPhone?

Share the recording from Voice Memos as a Rendered file, save it to Files, and upload it in FastClip in Safari or in the iPhone app. Pick the moment, choose a waveform and captions, and download the MP4.

Which file do I share from Voice Memos?

Choose Rendered. Apple says it creates a single .m4a file with all audio effects and layers mixed in. FastClip accepts M4A files.

How long can the video be?

A clip is up to five minutes. The voice memo itself can be longer: you pick the part to turn into a video. YouTube allows a Short of up to three minutes, so keep a clip for Shorts within that.

Can I add captions to a voice memo?

Yes. FastClip writes word-timed captions in the language spoken, which it detects among 35 languages, and burns them into the video. Speech recognition can get names and rare words wrong, so read the preview before you download.

Can I use a voice message from WhatsApp or Telegram?

If you can save the message as an audio file in a supported format, yes. FastClip does not open links to chat apps, so save the file first and upload it.

Does the video show a picture or my cover art?

No. The clip shows a moving waveform and captions, and your own logo if you add one in Settings. For a video with a picture, upload the video itself: see video to Shorts.

Can I export an MP4 without the waveform, or an MP3?

No. FastClip exports a video with its audio as an MP4. It does not export audio-only files.

Is there a watermark?

A clip made from audio carries no FastClip credit. You can add your own logo in Settings.

Can I post the video to Instagram, TikTok or YouTube Shorts?

Yes, as a download. The MP4 is vertical 9:16 at 1080 × 1920, the shape those apps use. Download it and upload it in the app.

Is it a podcast episode? See the audiogram maker and podcast clip maker. Starting from a link? See podcast to Shorts. Want to learn how to clip a podcast? See how to clip a podcast.
