VIDEO TO FACEBOOK REELS
Turn a video into a Facebook Reel, free
Upload the MP4 or MOV and pick the moment. FastClip crops it to vertical 9:16 while following faces, and burns in word-timed captions. Download it and upload it as a Reel.
Free, no credit card. Upload a file of up to 5 GB in the app, or paste a YouTube, X or Google Drive link.
How to turn a video into a Facebook Reel
1. Upload the file
Open FastClip and upload the video: MP4, MOV and other video files, up to 5 GB. An upload does not depend on YouTube. You can also paste a YouTube, X or Google Drive link.
2. Pick the moment
Take a suggested moment, select the words in the transcript, or set the start and end on the timeline. A clip is up to five minutes. Start on the first sentence of the thought.
3. Make it vertical
Turn on the full-screen 9:16 crop. It can follow the speaker’s face automatically, and you can move the frame with keyframes. The export is 1080 × 1920. Skip the crop to keep the original frame.
4. Caption it and upload
Word-timed captions are burned in. Download the MP4, then upload it as a Reel in the Facebook app or on your Page. FastClip does not post to Facebook.
If a link does not work
YouTube refuses many downloads from FastClip’s servers, so a pasted YouTube link can fail. A file you upload does not depend on YouTube, so it works when a link does not.
What Facebook asks of a Reel
From Meta’s Reels page for creators (read October 16, 2026):
- At least three seconds, no maximum. Meta says videos must be at least three seconds long, with no maximum length.
- Any video can be a Reel. Meta describes Reels as any video, short or long, in a vertical or a horizontal format. A horizontal file does not need a crop to be accepted.
- MP4. Meta lists the .mp4 format. FastClip exports MP4.
- 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 is the recommended shape. Meta’s documentation for publishing Reels through its API recommends 1080 × 1920, with 540 × 960 as the minimum, 24 to 60 frames a second, and a length of 3 to 90 seconds.
In practice: Facebook takes a horizontal MP4 as it is. Make the clip vertical when you want the full-screen look. The two Meta pages disagree on length (no maximum on one, 90 seconds on the other), so a clip under 90 seconds is safe on every route.
What FastClip does for a Reel, and what it does not
What you get from one clip:
- One moment at a time. A clip is up to 5 minutes. FastClip does not convert a whole long recording in one go. You can make several clips from one file.
- A crop, not a blurred background. The 9:16 option crops the picture to follow the speaker. FastClip does not add blurred or black bars. See horizontal to vertical video.
- Burned-in captions. Captions are part of the picture, in the language spoken. There is no separate caption file and no translation. See add captions to video.
- No direct post to Facebook. You download the MP4 and upload it yourself. FastClip posts directly to Instagram and X.
In practice: use your own files, or files you are allowed to use. Our originality rules by platform compare what Facebook and other apps say about reused clips.
Which moment to use
Pick one complete thought: a question and its answer, a story with an ending, or one clear statement. Cut the introduction and end on the last sentence that carries the point. Our guides on hooks and clip length go deeper. Making an Instagram Reel instead? See podcast to Reels and YouTube to Reels.
Questions
Is this video to Facebook Reels converter free?
Yes. The free plan has no credit card: 100 finished clips and 50 YouTube or upload imports in total, and up to 30 finished clips a day.
Do I need to convert a video to post it as a Facebook Reel?
Often not. Meta says any video of at least three seconds, vertical or horizontal, can be a Reel, and lists MP4. Use FastClip when you want to pick the moment, make it vertical 9:16, or add captions.
What size should a Facebook Reel be?
Meta’s documentation for publishing Reels recommends 9:16 at 1080 × 1920, with 540 × 960 as the minimum. FastClip’s full-screen crop exports 1080 × 1920, as an MP4 up to 1080p.
How long can a Facebook Reel be?
Meta’s creators page says at least three seconds with no maximum length. Its publishing documentation lists 3 to 90 seconds. A FastClip clip is up to 5 minutes.
Can I post to Facebook Reels from FastClip?
Not directly. Download the MP4 and upload it in the Facebook app or on your Page. FastClip posts directly to Instagram and X, one post each on the free plan.
Is there a watermark?
A small “Made with FastClip” credit is on by default. Switch it off in Settings, on the free plan too.
Which files can I upload?
Video files such as MP4 and MOV, up to 5 GB a file. The clip you make from it is up to 5 minutes, and you can make several clips from one file.
Can I turn a YouTube video into a Facebook Reel?
Paste the link in the box at the top and pick the moment. If YouTube refuses the download, upload the video file instead. Use videos you own or may use.
Does it keep the whole horizontal frame?
You choose. Without the 9:16 crop the clip keeps the original frame. With it the picture follows the speaker, and FastClip does not add blurred bars.
Can it add captions?
Yes. Word-timed captions are burned in, in the language spoken, which FastClip detects among 35 languages. See add captions to video.
