Clipping calculator: what a clip really pays

Per-view clipping campaigns look simple: a rate times your views. View minimums, caps and engagement rules change the answer. Enter a campaign’s terms to see what one clip and one month can earn.

How per-view clipping pay works

A campaign pays a rate for every 1,000 views on a clip you post to your own account. The pay for one clip is:

earnings = views ÷ 1,000 × rate per 1,000 views

Four terms then cut that number down:

  • View minimum. Below it the clip earns nothing. On Clipster the median is 2,000 views.
  • Per-post cap. The most one clip can earn. The median Clipster clipping cap is $675, and half of those campaigns reach their cap by 800,000 views.
  • Per-creator cap. The most one creator can earn from the campaign: median $1,750 on Clipster clipping campaigns.
  • Engagement bar. Views count only when likes, comments and shares reach a set share of views, often 0.2% to 3%.

Rate conversion table

Platforms quote the same rate in different units. Clipster shows rates per 1M views; many others show them per 1,000 (CPM).

How to earn more per hour of clipping

  • Pick campaigns by terms, not by rate alone. A high rate with a 7,500-view minimum can pay less than a lower rate with a 1,000-view minimum, if your clips usually land between the two.
  • Join early. Views pay only while budget remains. Check how much of the budget is already used.
  • Aim for many clips over the minimum. Per-post caps mean the tenth good clip adds more than the millionth view on one clip.
  • Spend your time on finding moments. The cut, captions and export should take minutes. A strong opening line and a complete thought decide whether a clip clears the minimum.
  • Keep every clip within the rules. A rejected clip earns nothing, and repeated rejections can cost you the account.

Questions

How much do clippers make?

It depends almost entirely on views that clear each campaign’s rules. At the median Clipster clipping rate ($1,000 per 1M views), a clip with 100,000 approved views earns $100. The median campaign pays nothing below 2,000 views, stops paying one clip at $675, and caps one creator at $1,750 per campaign. No platform publishes what typical clippers earn per month, so treat any single income figure with suspicion.

What does CPM mean in clipping?

CPM is the pay per 1,000 views (“cost per mille”). Clipping platforms use it the other way round from advertising: it is what the campaign pays you. Some platforms, including Clipster, show the same rate per 1M views; divide by 1,000 to get CPM.

How do I convert a rate per 1M views to per 1,000 views?

Divide by 1,000. $1,000 per 1M views is $1 per 1,000 views; $250 per 1M is $0.25 per 1,000.

Why did I earn less than the calculator says?

Views below the campaign minimum, views that fail the engagement bar, views from excluded regions, flagged or rejected posts, a campaign budget that ran out, and per-post or per-creator caps all remove earnings. The calculator shows the ceiling for views that count.

Is clipping worth it?

It can be when you pick campaigns with budget left, low view minimums and caps that fit your typical views, and when you can make good clips quickly. It is a poor fit if most of your clips stay under the view minimum, because those earn nothing.
