Boxed captions: subtitles on a dark box
White words on a dark rounded box. The words appear one by one as they are spoken, and stay readable on any background.

What it is
Boxed captions put the text on a dark box, so it stays readable over a white wall, a bright window or a busy screen share. In FastClip the box is dark gray at 88 % opacity with rounded corners, and the words of the line appear as they are spoken. This is the Boxed preset.
Use it for
- Bright studios, outdoor interviews and screen shares
- Webinars and talks with slides behind the speaker
- Viewers who need high contrast

Make this clip from your own podcast in 3 steps
1. Paste a link or upload the file
Paste a YouTube or X link or a Google Drive link to the episode, or upload a video or audio file. FastClip makes the transcript; you can leave and come back.
2. Pick the moment
Select the exact words in the transcript, or set the start and end on the timeline. You choose the moment; FastClip does not pick it for you.
3. Finish it in this style
"Use this template" sets Boxed as your caption style. Finish the clip, choose vertical 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, then post it to Instagram or X from FastClip, or download the MP4.
How it differs from other styles
Boxed is the most readable style on bright video. Minimal captions have no box and no animation. Karaoke captions use a soft shade instead of a box.

Questions
How do I get subtitles with a background box?
In FastClip choose the Boxed preset, or set “Background” to “Box” in Settings, Captions. The box follows the length of each line.
Can the box be another color?
Not at the moment. The box is always dark gray; you can change the color of the words.
Do the words appear one by one?
Yes, in this preset each word appears when it is spoken. To show the whole line at once, set “Animation” to “None” in Settings, Captions.
