Minimal captions: clean subtitles for podcast clips
Small white text, up to eight words a line, no animation. Captions that help without taking over the frame.

What it is
Minimal captions are plain subtitles: small white words with a thin outline and no movement. They suit clips where the speaker and the picture matter more than the text. In FastClip this is the Minimal preset.
Use it for
- B2B, LinkedIn and conference clips
- Interviews where the faces carry the clip
- Viewers who find moving captions distracting

Make this clip from your own podcast in 3 steps
1. Paste a link or upload the file
Paste a YouTube or X link or a Google Drive link to the episode, or upload a video or audio file. FastClip makes the transcript; you can leave and come back.
2. Pick the moment
Select the exact words in the transcript, or set the start and end on the timeline. You choose the moment; FastClip does not pick it for you.
3. Finish it in this style
"Use this template" sets Minimal as your caption style. Finish the clip, choose vertical 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, then post it to Instagram or X from FastClip, or download the MP4.
How it differs from other styles
Minimal is the quietest style. Boxed captions add a dark box for bright video. Word-by-word captions highlight the spoken word.

Questions
Are minimal captions enough for clips watched without sound?
Yes, they carry every word. They are smaller than the other styles, so check the preview on a phone; set the size to M or L if the text looks small.
Can I export the captions as a subtitle file?
No. FastClip burns the captions into the video, so they show the same in every app. It does not export SRT files.
Does it work on a horizontal video?
Yes. If you keep the original shape when you finish the clip, the captions sit at the bottom of that frame, for example a 16:9 video.
About the example
Audio: chapter 1 of The Art of Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie and J. Berg Esenwein (1915), read by Michael Lipschultz for LibriVox, public domain. Cut, captioned and rendered by FastClip; words corrected in the captions: "100" → "hundred".
Make your first clip in this style
Paste a link to your episode. The clip comes out with these captions, and you can change any setting before you finish.
